Bestiary

Djheni:

Bipedal, horned, thick skinned, 1.5-3 meter height. Single sex but socially enforced gender roles. Hairless generally but a few half breeds may grow patches of hair.

Powerful, muscular, tall, broad, and fierce. The Djheni people are the source of many human myths, Demons especially. Due to the color of their star, their skin color tends to be in shades of red, brown, and olive. They normally have no hair but can interbreed with humans and occasionally the hybrids may. Their heads are adorned with rows and ridges of horns growing up from muscle wrapped cartilage.

Djheni are slower than humans, but stronger. A natural Djheni is intelligent, sentient, and wise but not creative or very good at reason. The half-breeds on the other hand possess the strongest of both human and Djheni abilities. Also they possess an innate affinity with a magic like ability they call the chant; which can influence forces, fields, and energy. Their hearing isn't quite as good as a humans, possessing no external ear structure, just ear slits. However their vision is better and can see in to deep IR, giving warm and hot things a golden shimmery hue.

Gender is fluid for Djheni culture, as there is only a single sex. Depending on circumstance and choices in life a Djheni may become a meru for a time—or for the rest of their life. Merusi are essentially mothers though more often then not they are slaves; taken in battle or through subterfuge. A few are also born to be meru, their Djheni blood not quite strong enough. When these weak Djheni come of age, the Achera separate them from the rest. They are then given to whom ever has the strongest claim—as property.

Politically, Djheni culture isn't much different from human. Generally they have a tribal Chieftain or Monarch that governs with a handful of rich nobility, bound through blood or treaty. Below the nobility are a mass of workers, warriors, and magi who allow the day to day life to continue. For the lower cast there is a sense of worship of their leaders. They are more than just Djheni, they are close to godhood.

Achera:

Quadruped, warm blooded, reptilian, massive. 1-3 meter height and 2-5 meter length (nose to rear). Also possess a single sex. Armored with scales, highly toxic, thus they are nearly fearless.

The Achera are the second sentient species on the Djheni homeworld. Though they do not speak, they exist in a symbiotic relationship with the Djheni, assisting in Djheni social structure and culture. Though they are sentient, most humans and even most Djheni assume them little more than intelligent animals.

In appearance, they are something like a cross between a bull, a tiger, and a snake. They are huge, some times growing nearly as large as an elephant but more often staying about the size of a small horse. Their scales are large, shiny and plate-like, separated from their skin in such a way that they can raise and lower them. This serves multiple purposes, their ability to raise them like flaps allows them tolet air in to draw heat from their skin, or close them to trap heat. They are smooth and reflective, allowing them to resist the desert sunlight. They also allow the Achera to dig through the sand, almost like they were swimming. Of course it also acts as armor when they get in to the many physical contests with one another, which frequently end in death of the weaker.

Their heads are wedge shaped and angular. Not unlike an earth triceratops, but without the skull plate or horns. Their vision is highly acute, much better than that of a human or Djheni. They also possess a third eye in the middle of their forehead, though this one is little more than a recessed divot between scales. This third eye sees from deep red at the highest down to middle RF, allowing them to hunt prey underground, through meters of sand and rock. They are even able to pick up the minute electrical interference a muscle gives off as it clenches. They also have no ears, just as the Djheni don't, and their hearing is limited.

Communication and culture amongst the Achera is bound by a form of telepathy. Nothing magical about it, simply due to their affinity with lower EM bands, they can pick up on the minute mental changes of others. Over time they developed the ability to transmit as well, a form of natural radio. Human and Djheni minds do not have any sort of structure that can act as a proper receiver, however an Achera familiar with the subject can influence one's mind. Generally this is little more than emotion from influencing different parts of the brain. However most Achera find the concept a waste of time, as it takes months of study to learn how an alien mind works.

The Achera are toxic. Nearly every major fluid in their body is filled with one neurotoxin or another. The why and how of this is an unanswered question but it is theorized that once—eons before; the Achera were little more than walking pharmaceutical factories. The blood is the worst, filled with nearly every neurotoxin their body produces, for almost every species known but the Achera themselves; it is deadly. The urine on the other hand is mostly harmless, the toxin's having broken down before entering the bladder.

However a small hand full of less dangerous toxins are still present. The Achera use these toxins to subdue potential mates, urinating on a weaker Achera. One of the chemicals bind with certain receptors in the brain and trap the thoughts in a loop; sex, lust, hunger. Another triggers ovulation and fertility. Others simply disorient or subdue them, rendering them helpless. The Djheni have also found this effect quite useful. They learned to purify Achera urine, distil it, then use it to subdue slaves or make rape more pleasant for both parties. However prolonged use of the drug can permanently train the mind, like a Pavlovian response. Eventually even brain damage can occur. Another side effect in humans and occasionally Djheni is multiple ovulation, where more than one egg is released and can be fertilized. This has known to cause complications with human women when there are more than 3 babies.

The semen of an Achera is used during Djheni coming of age. Djheni are immune to its effects, all it does is cause minor seizing and spasming of vaginal muscles. In human and Djheni half-breeds though it may cause muscle spasms throughout the entire body and moderate to severe brain damage. The severe damage is generally referred to as blanking and this may be a desired effect to permanently wipe the mind of a particularly troublesome meru.

However during Djheni maturation, when they come of age, this effect is used to separate Djheni from meru from 'meat'. A Djheni has little to no response when mating with an Achera, aside from the pain involved (Achera genitalia are not suited for Djheni or human bodies). However if the Djheni blood is too weak, brain damage occurs. If the damage is only minor, they will spend the rest of their life as a meru. Albeit a mentally disturbed and brain damaged meru, but their bodies still work and the mingled blood of their children is generally stronger than the mother's.

If then the Djheni is blanked by their maturation trial, they are considered meat. All honor is lost, there is no compensation for the Djheni who raised them, they are worthless to the Djheni tribes. Unable to feed themselves, care for their children, or even go to the bathroom on their own. When this happens the blanked 'meat' is thrown to the crowd. A few hours of pleasure for them until the vegetated Djheni dies from wounds, choking, or exhaustion. No one cares for them, no one misses them, they don't even have enough human blood to be kept as a blanked meru.

I mentioned prior that the Achera genitalia are not suited for other species. The Achera possess a cloaca, meaning their penis is filthy to begin with. The vent is a wrinkled fold of skin, hanging down between their rear legs, with the rear cleft hanging downward and the entrance tilted forward. The scales here are fine and flush to the skin, not unlike a snake's skin. Generally they mate belly to belly, not thrusting but laying together and allowing the inner muscles to coax an orgasm from the dominant. The penis itself is a wrinkled pillar of erectile tissue dotted with a helix of vicious talon like scales. They have no urethra, and instead a seminal duct, a channeled cleft along the underside of the penis that closes on itself when erect.

Small but muscles hold those scales in place, just like upon the Achera's back. The harder the arousal the more apt they are to stand on end. They are sharp, curved backward, and fully under the Achera's control. If the Achera so wished it they could shred a mate alive, ripping inner organs out with a few quick thrusts. Generally however they are only used to keep a mate in place until after orgasm.
